Snarly Yow of Maryland

The Snarly Yow is a 18th-century, phantom black dog cryptid from Maryland and West Virginia folklore, introduced by German immigrants. It is described as a 6-foot tall, invincible canine with glowing red/yellow eyes that stalks travelers, disappears at will, and can change size. Often considered more of a terrifying prankster than a killer, it is associated with haunted places like Civil War sites.
