Asylum 49 Ghost Stories

Asylum 49, located in the old Tooele Valley Hospital in Utah, is a renowned haunted attraction and reportedly one of the state’s most haunted places. Built in the 1950s, the former medical facility and nursing home is said to be haunted by former patients, including “Wes” and a child spirit named Jessica, along with a “Man in Black”.

Key Haunted Stories and Paranormal Activity:

  • Wes, the Confused Spirit: Many reports focus on an elderly man named Wes, a former Alzheimer’s patient who suffered in the facility. He is believed to still wander his old room, often described as confused or trapped.
  • The Man in Black: Witnesses have reported seeing a shadowy, dark figure in a hat walking into locked rooms, often appearing just before a patient’s death.
  • Nurse Maria: Reports mention a spirit named Nurse Maria, who is said to warn people about a “glowing portal” in the building.
  • Jessica and Other Spirits: A child spirit named Jessica is said to haunt the premises and has reportedly followed visitors home.
  • Physical Phenomena: Visitors and investigators have reported cold spots, voices, and objects moving on their own. One account describes a small ball rolling by itself in a closed conference room.
  • Full Apparitions: Skeptics have reportedly encountered up to eight full apparitions over 16 years, with sensations of being grabbed or touched by unseen forces.

From Hospital to Haunted Attraction:

  • History: The building operated as a hospital from 1953 until 2002.
  • The Haunting: Due to its history of suffering and death, the location became a hotbed for paranormal activity, leading owners Kimm and Cami Andersen to turn it into a, at times, full-contact haunted attraction.
  • Investigations: The site is frequently investigated, and it was the subject of the book The Haunting of Asylum 49

Asylum 49 offers both public and private ghost tours, giving visitors a chance to experience the supposed hauntings firsthand.
